Laurie received her BS in Accounting from Southern Methodist University and a Masters in Hospital Administration from George Washington University. She has practiced accounting in a variety of fields. In healthcare with Ernst and Young, and St Lukes Episcopal Hospital, in the Arts with The Tennessee Performing Arts Center and The Frist Museum as well as several non-profits.
A native Mississippian, she has recently moved to Oxford and is devoted to helping students to understand and master the principals of accounting. By explaining the overall concepts and working thru problems with students, she prepares students for upcoming classes and tests.
She realizes Accounting is a difficult subject for many with new concepts, terminology and systems. In Accounting 201, the focus is on financial accounting, and she emphasizes the importance of early intervention to build on the basics introduced in the initial classes.
Accounting 202 focuses on internal accounting with an emphasis on cost accounting and budgeting. In both classes, she provides easy to read summary study sheets to help students organize and grasp the most important problem-solving calculations and prepare for testing.
